UPDATE: A post-mortem carried out after an unconcious woman found on a Newquay street died in hospital has been called "inconsistent" and police are waiting for toxicology results.

Officers say that enquiries are continuing and they are appealing for witnesses who were in the Mount Wise area of Newquay in the early hours of Tuesday, July 1, and who saw anything that may be relevant to the investigation.

Detective Inspector Helen Shears said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time, particularly a couple who were heard at the top of the junction between Mount Wise and Marcus Hill at around 3.30am.”

A woman has died after being found unconscious in a Newquay street on Tuesday.

The 53-year-old woman from Newquay, who has not been named, was discovered on Mount Wise, Newquay just after 6.30am on July 1, after reports a woman was unconscious in the street.

An ambulance was called and the woman was taken to Treliske Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A cordon was set up in the area and the scene was examined by forensic officers.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

Her next of kin has been informed.

A post-mortem will be carried out today.
