Firefighters became artists’ models for a morning last week when a group from Sketch Club Falmouth turned out to catch them in action and commit them to paper.
Around 25 artists descended on Falmouth Fire Station, armed with sketch pads and pencils, and set to work, taking inspiration from a team of firefighters led by Martyn Addinall who rolled out hoses and used hydraulic cutters to remove doors from a car.
Eve Bourrat, who runs the sketch club, said: “It’s quite different to be able to draw firemen in action. There is a lot for us to draw, using different processes – it is unusual.”
After acting as artists’ muses, the firemen then got to get a serious message across as they gave the club members some fire safety tips before they packed up and left.
Sketch Club Falmouth meets on a weekly basis, but at a different venue each time and aims to have a new theme every week.
At previous sessions, the group have drawn a professional Flamenco dancer, stilt walkers, wedding dresses, views and a variety of objects, including toilet rolls.
There are similar clubs in Penryn and Truro, but for details of the Falmouth group and its activities visit sketchclubfalmouth.com.
