An investigation has been launched after a worker was airlifted to hospital after a fall at the site of the new incinerator at St Dennis.

The man is understood to have fallen 30ft at the construction site for the SITA Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre (CERC).

He suffered suffered serious head and arm injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital, Plymouth on Tuesday morning by Cornwall Air Ambulance

A SITA UK spokesman confirmed the "serious incident", saying the man was a construction worker employed by a subcontractor of main contractor VINCI.

Adding: "An internal investigation is now underway to establish the cause of the incident by the main contractor VINCI Environment UK Ltd."

“Health and safety remains a top priority for both SITA UK and VINCI.”

Most working at height was suspended at the site following the incident.
