Youngsters from Helston proved they were on the “write” track for a career with words after winning a Rotary competition.

The three top entries into this year’s Helston Rotary Young Writer Competition were presented with their prizes by Helston Rotary Club president Mike Hales and Mick Timpson, chairman of youth services.

The theme this year was “What a difference that made to my life.”

A £50 Amazon voucher was awarded to Finlay Ford in first place, with £25 to Dominic Wilson in second and £10 to Thomas Fogg in third.

The competition was open to all pupils in year seven at Helston Community College, who are tutored by Mel Ross-McDonald.

Rotary runs several competitions for students of all ages up to 18. They include Young Photographer, Young Musician, Youth Speaks and Young Chef.

All of these competitions are run by Helston Rotary Club and offer similar prizes.

There will be another chance during the next school year for those who did not enter this year.
