Families in Porthleven enjoyed a Sunday lunch with a twist last weekend when they gathered together on the port’s playing field.

Porthleven Community Group organised the communal afternoon picnic as part of the Eden Project’s Big Lunch initiative, which encourages communities across the length and breadth of theUnited Kingdom to eat together on the first Sunday in June. The port’s recently appointed mayor, Danny Williams, opened the event, which saw more than 100 people turn up to enjoy entertainment from Porthleven School’s Signing Choir and from Lisa and Darren McNally who led children and adults through dance routines.

Charlene Bastedo, who led the signing choir, told the Packet: “It was a truly brilliant day. The children were really keen to take part in this event again, as in their words ‘it’s great our mums and dads stay at the park for ages chatting and eating and we get to play’.”
