Helston Town Band’s principal cornet player is one of four winners of a prestigious classical music competition.
Andy Wingham, 15, is the first cornet player to have ever been selected amongst the winners since the Young Musicians Platform competition began in 2001.
After being selected from more than 50 young musicians from across the south west, over two rounds of auditions, Andy and the other winners – two cellists and a violinist – will now play a recital as part of the Two Moors Festival in October.
They will also each receive £250.
Andy, a year ten student at Helston Community College, said: “I was so excited when I received the letter.
“I was a finalist last year so knew what was expected. The auditions were a great experience and I am really looking forward to the concert in October 2014.”
