There is excitement in Constantine as villagers prepare to see their local park transformed following a lengthy fundraising campaign, but more help is needed to complete the project.

The community group JuMP was created in 2012 with the sole aim of regenerating the Jubilee Memorial Park after one mother decided “enough was enough” and arranged an open meeting, inviting parish councillors and local residents.

Since then, the JuMP committee has worked tirelessly to raise money, apply for grants and run workshops for children.

Eventually, with a lot of help from the community, donations and grants from SITA Trust, SITA Cornwall, CORY Environmental, Cornwall Community Foundation, Community Cash Back and the Community South West competition, almost £56,000 was raised enabling the group to order the new equipment.

Daro Montag, JuMP chairman, said: “It has been a great achievement to have won so many funding bids and made so much from community events. We would like to thank everyone that has supported us and helped us over the last few years.

“It has been hard work and without the support of the community, would not have been possible”.

Preparations are now being made for the installation of the new equipment. Last week a digger cleared the site of the old, broken gear and top soil will be laid and seeded.

“This is a very exciting stage of the project and we are very much looking forward to seeing the end result,” said Eric Nicholls, project treasurer.

With the equipment now on order the site cleared, JuMP is now appealing for help from carpenters from the parish to get involved by creating seating for the play area.

Cornwall Community Foundation funding of £2,300 has been allocated for this and the committee is keen to hear from anyone with ideas for robust, weather resistant seating that is within keeping of the village, preferably using local materials.
