With news that Jonathan Griffin is to step down from the top job at the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, the awaard winning museum is advertising for a £60,000 replacement.

The museum is looking for "an inspirational and energetic director" to "lead the future development of the museum and build new partnerships to secure its long term sustainability".

Candidates must have the vision and determination to succeed in a challenging commercial environment and be able to create opportunities for developing our activities.

The director, supported by the Trustees and team, will be responsible for devising strategy and implementing policy and will be the ‘voice’ of the Museum, locally, nationally and internationally.

The director needs to have a "proven track-record of operating at a strategic level in a museum or heritage environment, or equivalent experience in a commercial sector", personal and corporate ambition, personal integrity and an ability to work with stakeholders and a multi-disciplinary team.

Jonathan Griffin will be stepping down as director this September after 11 years at the helm.

Although formerly retiring from the Museum Jonathan will continue to be involved in the heritage.

Jonathan said: “I am immensely grateful to everyone who has helped to make the National Maritime Museum Cornwall a success: staff, volunteers, partners, visitors and the local community. From those early dreams, I believe that together we have built something that will be a long-term success for Falmouth, for Cornwall and for maritime history generally. It has been a privilege to captain the ship.”

“I could not have wished for a more enjoyable job combining three things I love: the heritage, boats and Cornwall.”
