Both Falmouth Lifeboats were called to assist a boat drifting without power in the Carrick Roads on Saturday.

Just before 6pm Falmouth Coastguard requested that the inshore and all weather Lifeboats be launched following a call from the 36ft ketch Nautipus which had lost power and was in danger of drifting ashore at Greatwood near Mylor.

The inshore Lifeboat arrived at 6.12pm and found that the ketch, with five people and a dog on board, had already been taken in tow by the yacht Gazelle and was being towed clear of the shore, so a lifeboat crew member was put on board the yacht to assist.

The all weather Lifeboat arrived 6.21pm and by 6.31pm had taken over the tow and was heading back towards Falmouth Harbour escorted by the inshore boat, and the craft was safely berthed at Falmouth Marina in Penryn River just after 7pm.
