THE Mission to Seafarers secretary general, the Rev Andrew Wright, paid a visit to Falmouth Docks last week where he met volunteers and invited guests, who included the mayor, Geoffrey Evans.

He was also in Falmouth to present certificates in recognition of the outstanding work of Falmouth Mission volunteers and other agencies in their care of the survivors of MSC Flaminia.

While at the docks, Mr Wright also met A&P Falmouth’s managing director, Peter Child, and thanked him for the company’s support of the Mission.

Finally, former harbour pilot, David Barnicoat, presented Rev Wright with a copy of his book, Sailing Ship to Super Liner, written to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the docks.

Penny Phillips, chairman of the Falmouth branch of the mission, said: “David’s book, which he kindly allowed the mission to sell and to keep the entire proceeds, has raised £18,000 to date. This money has gone a long way to funding our new eco-building at the docks.”
