Making nasal mucus was amongst the more grizzly tasks to delight students of Mullion School when they visited a medicine and healthcare exhibition.

Year ten and 11 pupils with a strong interest in medicine or healthcare as a future career were invited to the interactive exhibition at the Knowledge Spa at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

Despite the day clashing with industrial action, the pupils all showed their dedication by agreeing that the trip should still go ahead.

At the exhibition they were free to visit the stands and talk to the many professionals that were there.

The stands were all interactive and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves performing CPR, making snot, discovering about balance, listening to a foetal heart beat, watching a knee replacement and discovering about the science and technology behind the equipment used for heart monitoring.

They were even able to wear a special suit to enable them to experience what it was like to be aged and suffer the stiffness associated with getting older.

A school spokesperson said: “It’s not often that pupils get to attend an exhibition such as the one that was provided at the RCH Treliske Knowledge Spa and the pupils came away with a wealth of information and literature, having learnt about the opportunities available within the medical profession and inspired by the very welcoming and informative people who were at the event.”
