Police are appealing to Cornwall's gay community to help solve the mystery surrounding the discovery of Alan Jeal's body on Perranporth beach.

While  officers say there is no evidence that Alan Jeal, 64, was gay, he was was found naked with a sock his mouth, on a part of Perranporth Beach known as a gay cruising site.

Mr Jeal's body was discovered on 25 February.

Detectives are also renewing their appeal to trace the three people seen on CCTV at a Truro bus stop with Alan Jeal, as well as anyone who saw him in Perranporth.

The images showing a man matching Alan Jeal’s description talking to someone at a bus stop at 6.45pm on Monday 24 February at Lemon Quay bus station, Truro.

Two other people were also waiting for the bus, destined for Perranporth, at the same time.

DCI Dave Thorne, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “The people seen at the bus stop have not come forward, maybe because they have not seen the original appeal. They could hold vital information about his plans for that evening and we would urge them to get in touch.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who saw him in Perranporth that evening, whether getting off the bus, walking around the town or near the beach.”

Officers are also keen to locate the light-blue jacket Alan was seen wearing in the city that evening.

A dark navy-blue jacket, belonging to Alan, was found on Perranporth beach close to where his body was found but the light-blue jacket has not been found.

“It appears Alan had two blue jackets and we are keen to trace the lighter-coloured one he was seen wearing in Truro on the day before his body was found. He may have had the dark blue jacket in his rucksack,” DCI Thorne added.

Anyone with any information that could assist the investigation is asked to call police on 101 quoting log 381 of 1 March.
