Alternative rock icons Pixies have been announced as headliners for this year’s Eden Sessions.

The hugely-influential US band, who can count David Bowie, Bono and Thom Yorke among their most ardent admirers, are the fourth major act announced this year and will play at Eden on Wednesday, July 9.

Pixies join Ellie Goulding (sold out), Elbow (July 14) and Dizzee Rascal (June 21) on the bill for the 2014 Eden Sessions with ASUS Transformer Book. |More acts will be announced soon.

Making the announcement today, Rita Broe, Eden’s marketing director, said: “For nearly 30 years Pixies have been one of the most revered rock bands in the world and have inspired a galaxy of other top artists.

“We are massively excited to be able to welcome them to Eden. It feels like Pixies and the Sessions is a marriage made in rock heaven. With their addition to an already massive bill, this promises to be our best Sessions season ever.”

Formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1986, Pixies are Black Francis (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Joey Santiago (lead guitar), and David Lovering on drums, and will be joined by touring bassist Paz Lenchantin on the band’s summer UK/European dates. Last September, Pixies released EP-1 and then EP-2 in January, the band’s first collection of new music in more than 20 years.

Last year also saw the launch of Eden Sessions TV, featuring videos of some of the venues finest shows, including recently-uploaded footage from Muse’s legendary 2006 show (http://youtu.be/X0_yJ9VXu6U).
