Former Mullion man crowned pasty champion
8:50am Tuesday 11th March 2014 in Cornwall
A former Mullion man and a 14-year-old boy from St Martin were among the winners who crimped their way to success at this year’s World Pasty Championships.
Terry O’Connor, who is originally from Mullion but now living in Watford, won the Cornish Pasty Amateur category at the contest, which took place at the Eden Project.
Terry stayed in Lostwithiel the day before the competition and baked his pasties there to ensure he was able to enter the Cornish pasty category.
He said: “This is the category I wanted to win, definitely. I’ll be back every year to defend my title.”
Terry is a returning champion, having won the Open Savoury Amateur category at last year’s championships – a class he came third in this year.
Also ranking highly from the Helston and Lizard area was 14-year-old Michael Webb from near St Martin. He came second in the Cornish Pasty Junior section, delighting his parents who own Gear Farm Pasty Co where Michael has a Saturday job.
