Sochi inspires muddy 'Olympics' in Helston

A muddy version of the Winter Olympics came to Helston when Tempus Leisure brought their version of the event to the town's sports centre.

The event, for children from all over the county, was short on snow but had plenty of other activities on offer.

Participants competed as different countries in activities such as uni-hoc instead of ice hockey, a biathlon comprising archery and scootering, snowboarding using mountain boards, and a skeleton bob on a water and mud slide.

Mark Laundon, marketing manager at Tempus Leisure, said: “Everyone had a great time and future potential Olympic winners were inspired to try the real thing.

“Another slight difference to the Sochi games was that all achieved medals and certificates for achievement.”

One participant added: “It was really fun, active and competitive and I discovered new winter sports which I would really like to have a go at.”
