Seventy-six new homes could be built on the oil depot at Castle Drive in Falmouth and up to a further 40 at Swanpool if developers get their way.

Pre-application advice is being sought from Cornwall Council in relation to the two proposed developments so details are currently thin on the ground as only limited information has been provided.

The first comes on behalf of Cavanna Homes, described as a family business which has been responsible for a number of housing developments across the South West.

It has drawn up plans for the Falmouth Oil Services land which show 76 new properties built between Castle Drive and Tredynas Road. A mixture of houses and apartments are shown along with amenity areas.

On the pre-application form, which has been submitted by Jillings Hutton Planning of Exeter, the owner of the land is listed as Mr C J Walters c/o Lawrence Butler of Truro.

Neal Jillings, of Jillings Hutton Planning, confirmed that the plans are in their “very early stages” but said it would be inappropriate for him to comment further.

A request for a comment from his client did not get a response by the time the Packet went to press.

The other proposal relates to an area of land off Swanpool Road in Falmouth and is described as being for a residential development of between 20 and 40 units. The land in question lies behind the toilet block off Swanpool Beach.

The pre-application advice is being sought by Simon Collier of WYG on behalf of Linden Homes Strategic Land. Mr Collier said: “These are very early days in the planning process and as yet we are unable to indicate what form any planning application will take.

“The meeting with the council was purely an exploratory one. However, we will be carrying out pre-application consultation with local residents and councillors in the near future in order to provide people with an insight into the development proposals as they develop.”
