The future looks bright for Mabe School’s campaign to install solar panels after it received a £1,000 boost from a local windfarm.
The school moved closer to its £10,000 fundraising target after REG Windpower, which runs the Roskrow Barton Wind Farm outside Penryn, pledged its support for the programme.
The campaign, part of the national Solar Schools Project, aims to raise money through local businesses sponsoring the panels, thereby reducing the school’s emissions and energy bills.
Jo Clarkson, governor of Mabe School, said: “We are delighted to receive support from Roskrow Barton Wind Farm.
“Our students visit Roskrow Barton Wind Farm to learn about wind energy, and we look forward to expanding their study of renewable energy with solar panels that will power their classroom.”
The school is trying to raise sponsorship from local businesses by offering £5 sections of the panels, and has so far reached more than £1,750 including the donation from REG Windpower.
Sophie Hartfield from REG Windpower said “We are extremely impressed with Mabe School’s initiative to bring renewable energy inside the classroom - and on the roof. We are pleased to support such a fantastic local cause.”
