ST Keverne and Coverack parish councillors are looking to take greater control over planning applications in their area.

Members debated the idea of setting up a neighbourhood plan at their last meeting.

Once a plan is in place it means the parish’s views carry greater weight when Cornwall Council decides on planning applications.

It is designed to contain more detail than the previous parish plan the council created – which is now out of date – and is a legal document.

Councillors agreed to look in more detail at setting up a neighbourhood plan and will ask an officer of Cornwall Council to attend a future meeting to give more information.

A referendum will be held for members of the public to have their say before it is officially approved.

The whole process is likely to take between 18 months and two years.
