A decision on plans to convert the top two floors of the former Post Office building on The Moor in Falmouth into seven apartments, have been delayed after Cornwall Council ordered an affordable housing assessment be carried out.

The planning application went before Cornwall councillors on Monday with a recommendation from planning officer, Martin Woodley, that they grant conditional approval with a section 106 agreement to cover specific financial contributions to essential infrastructure.

The proposal, though, had been opposed by the council’s affordable housing team as it does not make a contribution to affordable housing.

It said support could only be given to a revised version of the scheme which provided the “required level” of affordable housing provision.

Councillors on the central sub-area planning committee agreed to defer determining the application until an affordable housing assessment had been carried out for the site.
