UPDATE: The fire that caused damage to a section of the Great Hall at Alverton Manor hotel in Truro has been blamed on an electrical fault.

UPDATE: Cornwall's chief fire officer has praised the work of staff at the hotel saying they did well with evacuation of guests and roll call before the first crews arrived.

Adding that the good work by fire control to deploy six pumpsand specials fast enabled crews and officers to make "a good stop".

A spokesman for the Alverton Monor said: "We had a small, isolated fire in the Great Hall shortly after 9am this morning. Everyone was evacuated and safe within five minutes and the fire was fully extinguished by 11.30am.

"There is a small amount of damage to the Great Hall but all is in hand to have this repaired and back up and running as soon as possible.

"All functions within the next week have been contacted and accommodated for at our sister hotels. The main hotel and brasserie are unaffected and open as usual. We thank everyone for all of their support this morning."

A fire service spokesman said crews from Truro, Falmouth, Perranporth, St Austell and Camborne, all attended the incident, with specialist appliances from St Just, Newquay and St Dennis also drafted in.

The fire was in the great hall measuring 60 meters by 40 meters. 4 fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus 4 hose reel jets and various ladders used. The Ariel ladder platform was put set up to cover the roof area. After an investigation by investigators it is now known to be accidental.

The fire has caused damage to a section of the Great Hall at the hotel. The Tregolls Road was reopened fully by Tuesday afternoon.

UPDATE 11.00am Reports that the fire at Alverton Manor Hotel, Truro is now out and that staff managed to get everyone out of the building safely.

UPDATE 10.35am: The fire at Alverton Manor Hotel in Truro now seems to be under control.  The Tregolls Rd heading out of Truro is closed.

UPDATE 10.15am: Crews wearing breathing apparatus are bringing the fire under control and are using a thermal imaging camera to locate the seat of the fire.  There are no indications of any casualties at this time.

Smoke is pouring from the roof of the Alverton Manor Hotel in Truro.

Four fire crews, including the aerial ladder platform are at the scene and Tregolls Road is being closed in both directions.

The fire is reported to have started in the Great Hall of the hotel. 

The fire is causing problem on the roads with the Tregolls Road open but very slow moving, traffic being directed by police past emergency vehicles

The hotel has recently been refurbished.
