Helston was the centre of new arrivals on New Year’s Day, with three babies welcomed to the area within the first few hours of 2014.
Among them was little Harvey Wallace Rex Williams, born to Suzanne and Martin Williams who live near Gweek.
Harvey was a late Christmas present, having been due on Christmas Day itself.
He decided to delay his arrival to the world, however, giving his parents a chance to enjoy the festivities and then begin the new year as proud first time parents.
Suzanne, 27, said: “He was a little bit late but definitely worth waiting for. He’s doing really well.
“Being born on New Year’s Day will definitely be something we’ll tell him about in the future. It’s quite special, having a baby on New Year. It’s the best start you could ask for.”
Harvey was born at Helston Birthing Centre at 1.57am, weighing 6lb 14oz. He was one of five that were born there between Christmas and New Year.
Suzanne’s contractions began just after 5pm on New Year’s Eve and they arrived at the centre at 10.30pm.
She was keen to thank the midwives who looked after the family at the |centre and oversaw Harvey’s safe delivery.
They are now settling in to family life, with Suzanne adding: “We’re just getting used to everything – it’s a bit of a learning curve!”
Martin, 32, is a farmer, while Suzanne is a Parkinson's specialist nurse for Peninsula Community Health.
Also taking her first steps into the world was Elsie Alina Bratu, born to dancer Becci Gowers and partner Edy Bratu.
She arrived three days late, at 3.12am on New Year’s Day, weighing 6lb 1oz, after a two-day labour.
Mum Becci is a former member of Cornish dance troupe Flava, which found fame on TV’s Britain’s Got Talent, and is now a Zumba teacher throughout the county with her |company Dance Confidence Cornwall. In 2012 she carried the Olympic Torch on one of its legs through Penzance.
Dad Edy is a former Romanian national team gymnast who is now training champions of the future as a coach at Swallows Gym in Helston.
Becci, from Crosswalla Fields near Helston Community College, said: “We’re really, really happy. There’s no sleep, but you know that will happen – you just crack on. We have wanted her for a while, so it’s good she’s here.”
She gave a “massive” thank you to the staff at Truro’s Royal Cornwall Hospital, saying: “From every single department we were in, from start to finish, they were just amazing. They really looked after us.”
The third baby born to the Helston area was little Joe Anthony George Pascoe, who arrived at Treliske at 9.37am weighing 8lb 11oz.
He is the third son for Vickie and Daniel Pascoe of Lower Boskenwyn Farm, and baby brother to six-year-old Brook and three-year-old Zak.
Vickie, who is a practice nurse at Helston Medical Centre, said the older pair were “thrilled” at the latest addition to the family.
Joe, who is known as Joey to the family, was four days late, but Vickie was pretty sure how she would be welcoming in 2014 after her contractions started on New Year’s Eve.
She described having a New Year baby as “lovely,” adding: “It was a nice surprise.”
Vickie, 28, added: “Treliske were brilliant as ever. They’re always really good up there.”
