Falmouth's Merchants Manor Hotel celebrates first birthday
3:00pm Tuesday 5th November 2013 in Cornwall
The owners of Falmouth’s Merchants Manor celebrated their first anniversary at the helm of the hotel by hosting a lavish gala dinner event.
Nick Rudland and his wife, Sioned Parry-Rudlin have invested heavily into the historic hotel and made many changes.
On Thursday, their gourmet evening gave over 100 local business people a chance to see the fruits of their labour and also raised more than £800 for Marie Curie.
The theme for the event was diamonds and pearls – diamonds to mark the hotel’s 100 year history and pearls to reflect Falmouth’s rich maritime landscape.
As well as being greeted by champagne and signature cocktails, guests were treated to a special four-course Cornish showcase dinner that was carefully selected and prepared by the hotel’s head chef Dale McIntosh.
Naturally with a hotel so close to the sea, velvet swimmer crabs featured on the menu alongside local game and venison from Duchy Game.
The centenary theme was also carried across the dinner with the main-course served on 100-year old Cornish oak boards designed by second year students at Falmouth University and the team at Joe’s Saw Mill in Penryn.
Since buying the hotel in October 2012, Nick and Sioned they have invested more than £550,000 into carefully renovating the historic and much-loved hotel.
Commenting on the success of the gala dinner, Sioned said: “As well as celebrating a year owning the hotel we wanted to host a special evening to thank the local community for their support and also showcase our offering to those who may not have visited the hotel since Nick and I took over.
“Merchants Manor is steeped in history and we want to firmly establish it as one of Cornwall’s leading country hotels by the sea. We hope the gala dinner gave guests a taste of our ambition for the hotel.
We are also delighted to have raised valuable funds for charity to make the event even more memorable.”
