4:20pm Sunday 3rd November 2013 in Cornwall
National Maritime Museum Cornwall has been announced as the silver award winner in the Best UK Heritage Attraction category at the prestigious 2013 British Travel Awards.
The announcement was made on October 31 at a glamorous Halloween Night Gala Awards Dinner, held at Battersea Evolution in London and attended by close to a thousand travel industry people.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2013 Falmouth’s the museum has 15 galleries over five floors, with interactive hands-on exhibitions dedicated to the sea, boats and Cornwall.
Jonathan Griffin, director of the Maritime Museum, says: “As an independent Museum, which receives no regular government funding, it is wonderful to get national recognition such as this. Even to be a finalist alongside Edinburgh Castle and Titanic Belfast was a huge honour, so receiving the silver award is fantastic. Congratulations to all the other Cornish businesses who were also award winners.”
British Travel Awards’ chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: “National Maritime Museum Cornwall is to be congratulated on their achievement in an awards programme which garners the opinions of the nation – these finalists and winners really are the best in travel.”
The BTAs are the only travel industry accolades voted for exclusively by the public.
