Storm fails to stop 'intrepid' helpers stringing up Helston Christmas lights
2:00pm Saturday 2nd November 2013 in Cornwall
The small matter of a major storm being forecast was not going to stop the intrepid Helston Christmas lights committee from beginning their preparations for this year.
With just over four weeks until the switch on – which takes place on Friday, November 29 – volunteers led by chairman Robert Williams were out in the town on Sunday, getting the first of the strings of lights in place.
After a 6am start, the team finished around lunchtime – after making sure the lights were extra secure ahead of the battering that was forecast for later that day.
As one joker on Facebook said, that there was a good chance that come the next morning they would end up becoming St Austell's Christmas lights.
They are now due to be back over the coming Sundays, getting the town ready for its Christmas festivities.
