Guide Dog puppy pays a visit to Penryn Junior School
1:00pm Saturday 26th October 2013 in Cornwall
The children at Penryn Junior School welcomed a very special visitor of the four legged variety last week.
PJ is a 15 week old puppy at the start of his training to become a guide dog who is being sponsored by the school. The children chose the dog’s name – an abbreviation for Penryn Junior – and will be keeping in contact with the pup and his trainer, June Scott, over the coming months and years.
The school chose to support the Guide Dog for the Blind Association when the children were deciding what to do with money raised during a sponsored read on World Book Day in March 2012.
“This year they chose the guide dog appeal because they had been visited by Sue Bray and her dog and Kay Kitto and her guide dog who had given such an inspirational talk |during assembly,” said teacher Jan Eddy.
“Through the sponsored read the children had raised enough money to sponsor a guide dog puppy which they were delighted about.”
The pupils and staff got the chance to meet PJ for the first time last week when June brought him into school and took him into every class.
“We will now keep in regular contact with PJ during his training via June and finally when he is matched with somebody we hope to encourage a strong link with that person,” said Mrs Eddy.
