Helston Lizard Rotary golf day raises charity funds

A golf day held as part of an ongoing drive to raise charity funds saw Helston Lizard Rotary Club sinking more than £2,700.

Held at Killiow Golf Club in Truro and organised by club member Hjalmar Wara, it featured 21 teams.

After a hard few hours of competition the winning team proved to be that captained by Phil Stanton.

Kevin Mosley took the title for longest drive, while Neil Perry got closest to the pin.

As a result of the day more than £2,700 was raised, of which £1,500 has been donated to Little Harbour, the children’s hospice in St Austell run by Children’s Hospice South West.

A cheque was presented at Helston’s Children’s Hospice South West charity shop in Coinagehall Street.

Unfortunately Hjalmar was unable to attend, so president Ivor Mann and member Nigel Sumpter stepped in to do the honours.

The remaining funds will be donated to local charities.

Last week members of Helston Lizard Rotary Club were seen planting daffodil bulbs around Coronation Lake in two sessions, over Thursday and Sunday afternoons.

It is hoped that the blaze of colour next spring will add to the walls that were painted white in another Rotary project back in the spring.
