A Helston mother was mixing with the stars in London on Monday as she received a Pride of Britain Award.

Ingrid Loyau-Kennett, from Bulwark Road, was presented with a bravery award in recognition of her efforts in the aftermath of the killing of fusilier Lee Rigby in Woolwich in May this year. She kept an armed man talking until police arrived.

Monday’s award ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel, in Park Lane, honoured the country’s bravest and most deserving members of the public, with stars such as David Beckham and Usain Bolt, as well as Prince Charles and Prince William turning out to present awards.

The ceremony was televised last night, although Ms Loyau-Kennett’s award could not be run in the programme due to current reporting restrictions on the case.

All the Pride of Britain Award winners then met with Prime Minister David Cameron the morning after the ceremony, at a Downing Street reception.

It is the latest plaudit for Ms Loyau-Kennett, who last month received a Special Certificate of Exceptional Endeavour at the Cornish Gorsedh in Penryn. The mother of two, who is half French, has also been presented with a bravery medal by the French government and more than 85,000 people have signed a petition calling for the British government to do the same thing.
