Full changes to Cornwall's bus system - including replacement services
12:54pm Tuesday 8th October 2013 in Cornwall
Full details of changes to Cornwall’s bus routes have been announced – including new services to replace some of the cancelled ones.
It comes after the announcement of cuts in bus services from Cornwall’s two main operators, Western Greyhound and First, as the result of commercial decisions by the operators on less popular services combined with pressures on the council’s public transport budget.
Some decisions affected entire routes while others saw reductions in the frequency of journeys.
Since then the council has held discussions with public transport providers to fill in the gaps where possible and has now published details of a number of forthcoming changes from Sunday, November 3.
Councillor Bert Biscoe, Cornwall Council portfolio holder for highways and transport, said: “Recently a storm has blown up about bus services, particularly in the former Penwith area.
“The council’s staff and bus operators have worked together to come up with a revised network which, while somewhat reduced, does ensure that those who need buses can get buses. It has been a complex and pressurised situation and I am very grateful to all those who have contributed brains, time and effort.
“There is little doubt, however, that without sufficient funding, the face of rural bus services will change and, going forward, we cannot rule out the loss of services where passenger numbers are particularly low.”
Revised bus services from Sunday, November 3
