Treverva Choir stalwarts in fine voice for 120 years
2:00pm Friday 27th September 2013 in Cornwall
Four members of Treverva Male Voice Choir who have notched up around 120 years service between them, were recently presented with awards honouring their commitment.
Choir president, Mike Varney, presented Michael O’Hara and Mickey Norman with badges for their 35 years’ service and Melvyn Hocking and Barry Norman received badges recognising their 25 years’ service.
When the four first joined Treverva, it was a larger choir and the average age was much lower than it is today. However, the choir has welcomed new members who have joined since it moved to its new base in Penryn following the closure of its long-term home at Treverva.
The presentations came at the end of the choir’s final summer concert held at the Princess Pavilion when the choir’s direction was shared by MD John Adams and deputy MD Terry Reed, with Ruth Bray as accompanist.
The concert featured some new pieces and also featured guitar and vocal duets from the choir’s two youngest members, Neil Bolton and Josh Claybourn.
The choir welcomes new members, young and not so young, in all sections. Practices are on Mondays from 7.30 to 9.30pm at The Space, at Penryn Rugby Club. If you want to see whether joining the choir is for you, why not go along? You can contact choir secretary, Ann Trudgen 01326 210444 or email email@example.com.
The choir’s next concert is at Budock Village Hall on Sunday, September 29, at 7.30pm.
