ARSON is suspected after a huge fire destroyed the former Lidl supermarket building in Roskear, Camborne yesterday.
At one point up to ten fire crews from Camborne, Redruth, Falmouth, Helston, Truro, St Just, Perranporth, St Ives and St Dennis attended the scene on North Roskear Road at 1am on Saturday morning.
It took over an hour for the crews to bring the blaze under control. The fire is thought to have started in an old refrigerator shop which then spread to the derelict Lidl building.
Onlookers reported hearing loud explosions as asbestos in the building caught fire. No one was injured.
An investigation into how the fire started has now been launched but the fire service says arson is suspected.
