Remembering ex colleagues and old flames at Falmouth firefighter reunion
8:10am Saturday 21st September 2013 in Cornwall
More than 20 firefighters attended a re-union at Falmouth’s fire service social club to talk about old times and remember former colleagues.
One former fireman, now aged 84, retired from the fire brigade 31 years ago after completing 30 years service.
“He joined in 1954, in the days when we had wooden ladders, often with big wheels attached and pulled by horses,” said watch manager Stuart Williams.
“In those days the equipment was very different – none of the modern breathing apparatus, for example - the Cornwall fire brigade has come a long way.”
The re-union was organised by firefighter Ned Bailey of Red Watch, with real ale supplied by Rebel brewery. “It was a very successful and enjoyable evening,” said Mr Williams. “I’m sure we’ll organise similar events in future.”
