No objections to Falmouth 'gaming' bar
9:00am Monday 16th September 2013 in Cornwall
A plan to open a ‘gaming bar’ in Falmouth has seen no objections from town councillors, on the basis that there will be no gambling.
The licence application for a new bar called 8-Bit at 4 Quay Street was discussed by councillors on Monday evening. The application states that the ground and lower ground floors of the building will be used as a “computer gaming and board game bar for people to come and play individually or as a group, and to provide refreshments.” The bar will be open from Monday to Sunday from 10am to midnight.
Councillors agreed that with other late night establishments nearby, there were no grounds to object to the application, and they were satisfied that the term gaming did not mean gambling of any sort, which would require a different licence.
Councillors did however express disappointment that despite an invitation to discuss the application, the people behind the plan had not supplied any detailed information or come to explain exactly what the bar would involve, leaving them “in the dark.”
