Bikers gear up for Martin Jennings Memorial Run tomorrow
7:00am Saturday 7th September 2013 in Cornwall
The 26th annual Martin Jennings Memorial Motorcycle Run is due to take place on Sunday, and will this year raise money for the BBC Radio Cornwall Appeal which will benefit smaller charities across the county.
Riders will assemble at Garras Wharf car park in Truro from 9am before setting off at 10am on a countywide ride which will end at Falmouth Rugby Club at about 3.30pm. The event is organised in memory of Martin Jennings of Beacon, near Camborne, who died while competing in the 1987 Isle of Man Manx Grand Prix.
“This will be the 26th year I have organised the run, the first in 1988 when we had 30 bikes at the start,” said David Saunby. “Each year the run has grown, and now we have approximately 1,300 to 1,500 bikes at the start, which makes it the biggest charity motorcycle run in Cornwall, and one of the biggest in the country.”
The entry fee for riders is £3 solo and £5 for those with pillion. The ride is dependent on the weather and announcements of any postponements will be given out on local radio and posted on the internet at www.firstandlastmcc.co.uk.
