THE man who revived Porthleven’s Carolaire is hanging up his organiser’s hat following the event’s most successful year.
The carolaire, which took place on Sunday, brings together Porthleven Town Band and Praze Hayle Male Voice Choir in an evening of recitals and singing on the harbour, and raised £1,300, with the money shared between both groups.
Tommy Bray, who began organising the music event 14 years ago and is now aged 75, said he was “over the moon” at the result.
He believed the organiser of one of the world’s largest music festivals, Glastonbury, Michael Eavis had also supported the event with a £200 donation and may even have been there.
Mr Bray, from Four Lanes, said: “Everyone absolutely enjoyed themselves and I will miss it.
“I have mixed emotions but I am so glad it is going to carry on as once traditional events such as this are gone, they are gone forever.”
He is passing the mantle to his fellow organiser, Angela Thomas who confirmed she is looking forward to organising next year’s event.
She said: “I aim to carry on in Tommy’s tradition and the only change may be to start the event a little earlier.
“It’s a beautiful setting and a great gathering of local people who love singing.
“The most important thing is it will continue.”
Mr Bray wished to thank everyone who had helped to make the event a great success and in particular, the Porthleven Harbour and Dock Company, the town council, the Harbour Inn, the lights committee and the local supermarket.
