Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union (FXU) has launched the Green Living Project after winning funding |to create a sustainability scheme in the local community |with the aim of encouraging |pro-environmental behaviour.
The project, which is scheduled to take place across the Falmouth and Penryn campuses and within the local community, has two strands: energy and waste. The aim of the first is to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions from energy use in student accommodation and campus buildings. Through the waste strand, it aims aim to save valuable resources by reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill from the universities’ campuses. Both strands will promote more sustainable behaviour.
The project will increase staff and student participation in green initiatives and enhance student employability by enabling individuals to develop new skills, support social enterprise and student entrepreneurship. In addition it will strengthen community relationships.
Miriam Vesma, FXU environment and ethics officer, said: “Creating the bid was a big team effort, and our success is absolutely brilliant news. The whole team is very excited to let our members know about it and get started on the project.”
