Tributes have been paid to the former Royal Cornwall Show President and Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, who died in a crash at Penryn on Wednesday.

The second victim of the car crash in Penryn has been named as Lt. Commander Jeremy Tetley, RN (Retired).

Lt Cdr Tetley was also a former pilot on aircraft carriers in the Fleet Air Arm and had been a training officer at RNAS Culdrose in Helston.

He had also been heavily involved in agriculture, serving as president  of the Royal Cornwall Show committee in 2001.

Show secretary Chris Riddle said: “We are aware of this tragic accident. It has come as a shock to everybody who is associated with the show and with the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association. Everybody’s thoughts are with his family at a very upsetting time.”

Lt Cdr Tetley was also High Sheriff of Cornwall in 1976, a former Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall and a keen sailor, as a member of the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club in Falmouth. He was made a life Vice-President of the RNLI in 1978.

He is survived by his wife, Mor, three children and ten grandchildren.

The husband of Bridget Toy, who also died in the crash has spoken of his loss following the tragedy.

He said: "She was the love of my life, tragically taken. She had so much to live for. She did have lots of things she wanted to do this year and she's not been able to carry them out now."

The 61-year-old woman who died on Wednesday has been named as Bridget Toy of Penryn.

The 61-year-old woman who died in the road smash yesterday has been named as Bridget Toy of Penryn.

The man who died has not yet been named.

UPDATE 9.45am, Thursday

The two who died in yesterday's accident at Treluswell have been identified as a 61-year-old woman from Penryn and a man from Truro, whose age is not yet known.

A 65-year-old man from Penryn also suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Treliske. They had all been travelling in a silver BMW estate car.

The driver of the white Fiat Ducato truck, was a 22-year-old man from Penzance, who suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by ambulance staff.

The road was re-opened at 7.10pm having been closed for six hours. Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked for call 101 quoting log 347 of 03/07/13

LATEST 4.38pm, Wednesday

Police have confirmed that a man and a woman died in the accident at Penryn this afternoon. Next of kin have been informed.

UPDATE 3pm, Wednesday

Two people died in a road smash in Penryn this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the accident, at the junction of the B3292 and Browns Hill, just before 2pm.

A BMW and a lorry crashed at the junction, killing two people and leaving a third injured.

The air ambulance and four land ambulances were called to the scene.

Diversions are currently in place at Treluswell roundabout and also at the junction of Browns Hill with West Street.

The road is expected to be closed for "some time" and police are advising motorists to avoid the area until further notice.
