A drugs kingpin from Falmouth faces 13 years in jail this week for his part in a conspiracy to smuggle almost a million pounds worth of narcotics into Cornwall.

The future of Falmouth School’s plans to create new sports facilities on the former Budock Hospital site looks promising following a meeting on Friday.

MP Sarah Newton chaired the meeting between representatives from the school, NHS Property Services and Cornwall Council when they all agreed to work together towards the development of the currently derelict site.

A consortium of Cornish museums are celebrating another successful funding bid that sees them awarded £293,000 from the Heritage Lottery to help develop their fundraising skills.

The money will be spent on a series of activities including training courses, peer learning, mentoring, networking and advocacy for the Cornwall Museums Group, which includes Falmouth Art Gallery and the National Maritime Museum Cornwall.

Falmouth councillors are wholeheartedly supporting plans to introduce a new car club that will enable motorists to hire vehicles by the hour or the day.

Cornwall Council has set aside funding over two years to kick-start the creation of a car club which would operate in Falmouth and Penryn, Truro and possibly Wadebridge.

Constantine campaigners behind a project to breathe new life into a village playground have been left disappointed after narrowly losing out in a competition that could have bagged them £1,500.

JuMP, which is raising money to upgrade Jubilee Memorial Park, came second to a scheme in Lostwithiel.

With Wimbledon getting underway this week, it was the perfect time to unveil the new-look tennis courts at Gyllyngvase in Falmouth - which have undergone a £40,000 revamp.

An Ashton “gardener” caught with £134,000 worth of drugs in his boot and a huge cannabis farm in his garage was jailed this week.

William Anthony Mason, aged 50, was sentenced on Friday for his part in a larger conspiracy centred on Falmouth and Newquay.

Caught-short visitors to Helston town centre are using the outside wall of a closed public toilets to relieve themselves, according to one town councillor.

Gillian Geer, who owns a shop in town, told fellow councillors that "people are using the area outside for whatever they should be doing inside."

Cornwall's Police and Crime Commissioner would consider reopening Helston Police Station to the public if there was “a strong strength of feeling” for it.

Tony Hogg, a former commanding officer of RNAS Culdrose, made this assurance in a letter to Helston Town Council, who had written asking for him to reinstate the front desk at the station that closed in January 2011.

Garras and Sithney primary schools are joining together to share a headteacher.

Garras headteacher Anne Shipman, who has led the school for the last 16 years, is retiring at the end of the school year this July.

Despite the bad weather, pupils at Trannack School raised around £650 at their summer fair on Saturday.
