A charity football match played in Falmouth raised almost £600 for St Francis School’s Pirate Ship for a Princess Appeal.

The teams were made up of players from Falmouth Town AFC and parents from the school, which is raising money to buy a boat for the school playground in memory of Chloe Edwards who died from a rare form of neuroblastoma (cancer of the nervous system) early last year.

One of the organisers of the football match, Suzie Williams, said: “It really was a fantastic day for everyone, spectators, families, players and organisers alike. From a personal and club perspective, being part of a local fundraising event of this calibre has been an absolute privilege.

“The organisation and enthusiasm of the charity’s committee overseeing Pirate Ship for a Princess was really inspirational, and we look forward to working with them again. To everybody who took part in helping raise £580 for a great cause, a massive thank you.”

A Masquerade Ball in aid of the Pirate Ship for a Princess appeal and Children’s Hospice South West is being held at the Merchants Manor in Western Terrace on Friday evening. Tickets cost £27.50 and are available by calling 07557 526080.

The following Friday, the school is hosting a bake and bookmark sale between 3.30pm and 4.30pm in aid of its appeal.
