Helston will reclaim its standing as a charter market town this Friday when regular street markets re-launch.

Stalls will now be set out along Coinagehall Street every Friday and Monday, with gazebos bought by the Helston Business Improvement Partnership available to hire for £20, including a trestle table.

Town centre manager Jonathan Birkett told the Packet: “Hopefully it will be a significant improvement to what’s happened so far.”

During April the partnership is offering five free pitches to its members for each of the markets, on a rolling basis, to give them a chance to boost their business.

In the summer the business partnership’s markets group also hopes to add a third market, on the first Saturday of each month, featuring different types of traders.

The idea is to coincide with the monthly Helston Farmers’ Market that takes place at the Old Cattle Market on the same day, with Mr Birkett saying the group wanted it known countywide that the first Saturday of every month in Helston was market day.

The project has been led by Emma Wooderson and Mr Birkett said: “Emma and the project group have worked really hard over the past few months and the Town Team feel their work is going to make a big difference to the town. The markets will grow stronger throughout the year.”
