A Truro band have penned an extra “sweet” love song using only the words that can be found on their favourite sweets.

Moonlet & The Love-Monks used 89 messages scoured from 40 packets of that most romantic of children's confectionery - Love Hearts.

The lyrics of “Love Heart (say yes)” include the lines “tease me, chase me, kiss me, crazy” and “I surrender, dream girl, say yes.”

Made up of guitar and banjo player Dan Plummeridge and singer Joe O'Neill, both aged 24, as well as guitarist/vocalist Roger Heathers, age 20, bass player Harry Bosworth, aged 22 and drummer Zeno Ivory, aged 20, Moonlet & the Love-Monks have been together for three years and bonded over a love of sweets.

Dan said: “We decided we'd write the ultimate love song, so we asked ourselves where should we look for romantic inspiration?

“Roger said Shakespeare, Harry said Marvin Gaye, Zeno suggested Carly Rae Jepsen and I said Twilight - and then Joe jumped up and started running around the room shouting Love Hearts! Yes! Love Hearts say yes!

“We've heard the Love Hearts employees really like our song and we've been invited to perform at the factory.”

Sarah-Louise, marketing manager at Love Hearts makers Swizzels Matlow, said: “Moonlet & The Love-Monks sent us their song and it's become the official anthem of our Derbyshire factory.

“It's amazing how Love Hearts seem to inspire so many different people to be romantic.”

Love Hearts are hard, tablet-shaped sweets in a variety of fruit flavours featuring a short, love-related message on one side of the sweet.
