Never have the words “consider yourself, our mate” been a more fitting sentiment as new young members are welcomed to Helston Theatre Company for a production of Oliver!

They come from just one of the songs that the 22 children will be singing when they join adult cast members on stage this April for the Lionel Bart musical, swelling the cast to almost 50.

The youngsters have already been working hard on classic numbers such as Pick A Pocket and Food, Glorious Food, with choreographer Anita Smuda not letting the younger cast off the hook. Both adults and children share the same intricate dance moves in the joyful Consider Yourself.

Director Paul Blaber said he was very pleased with the new recruits, adding: “We are very impressed with the children; they are all already performing to a high standard and really taking on the challenge of being in a musical.”

Both of the young leads are being played by two new cast members, as Harry takes on Oliver and Luca becomes the Artful Dodger.

Oliver! runs from April 9 to 14. Due to popular demand, this year there will be a matinee on Saturday, April 13, and an extra performance on Sunday, April 14, at 2pm.

Tickets can be bought from Heathercraft Fabric in Coinagehall Street or by calling 01326 568936.
