MP takes on caring role

Truro MP Sarah Newton has been appointed a parliamentary ambassador for carers in 2013.

The appointment, made by Carers UK, recognises Mrs Newton’s work since 2010 on behalf of carers in her constituency and across the UK.

Mrs Newton’s ambassadorial role will see her taking part in various activities during Carers Week, which runs from June 10 to 16 and offers the opportunity for the work of carers to be recognised.

Mrs Newton said: “I am honoured to be appointed as a parliamentary ambassador for carers.

"I look forward to using this role to continue to speak up for the millions of people around the UK whose selfless commitment to looking after loved ones enables those cared for to continue to live a family life and to retain their dignity.’’

Mrs Newton will serve as a parliamentary ambassador alongside Paul Burstow MP and Shelia Gilmore MP.
