New business for Helston town centre

This is The West Country: Leah Lawley, Gav Price and Martin Lawley help move stock into the new shop. Leah Lawley, Gav Price and Martin Lawley help move stock into the new shop.

A new business selling “pre-loved” furniture and clothes has moved into an empty clothes shop in Helston.

The former Pla’s Boutique in Meneage Street, which traded as L&C Verran butchers for many years before that, has been taken on by the Lawley family.

They have called the shop Pre-loved Clothing and Furniture Boutique.

From here they are selling second hand goods, with the idea being that people take along their unwanted furniture and clothes that the family will buy off them and then sell on again.

Previously the family ran a tea room in St Ives, but dad Martin Lawley said this got very expensive.

He told the Packet: “We look round Helston and thought, ‘There’s nothing in Helston [like this], why not give it a go?’ We have had all the neighbours donate furniture.”

It will be a real family affair, with Martin joined by his wife Joanne and daughters Leah and Nicola.

Good to see. It's about time Helston went a bit more upmarket.

I feel sure many people will find this shop most usefull.
Maybe the huge cost of the tcm team is starting to pay off.

Reading the article I suggest the people would have decided to come to Helston and open the shop without any encouragement from the town centre management team. I strongly believe if someone wants to run a shop somewhere they will and if they don't they won't, what happened years ago before there was any TMC team.

Nicholapre, the town centre management team consists of the town manager Mr Jonathan Birkett and his aquired assistant who is leaving or has left and is being or has been replaced, two apprentices or maybe three that are to be employed, they work alongside the newly developed Helston Business Improvement Partnership and the town council.
I hope the new shop does well in Helston it is good to see another empty shop filled.
