Helston’s blogging dog went for a jog on Sunday to raise awareness and money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Golden retriever Samson lives with his owners Gemma and Ben Rawlinson at Crelly and writes a regular blog on his walks called Memoirs of a Muddy Dog.

With this now attracting a large readership both locally and internationally – including in the USA, New Zealand and Germany – Samson realised his website could not only be used to promote Cornwall’s walks and countryside but also to raise awareness of issues that affected him and those close to him.

These included his owners’ friend Morwenna Foster from Tresillian, who suffers from cystic fibrosis and is waiting for a lung transplant.

Sunday’s event raised £300 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and also important awareness of organ donation.

Samson’s owner Gemma said: “Without organ donation people with Cystic Fibrosis haven’t really got a hope.”

Around 30 people joined the walk, which left the gravel car park opposite Coronation Park and followed a route through Penrose Woods before returning back to the start.

“We wanted to make it accessible for everyone – families and people with breathing difficulties as well. There were quite a few families with cystic fibrosis there supporting us; it was absolutely brilliant.

“We had a really good turnout. We were thrilled. Despite the cold it was a lovely, sunny day.”

She added that Samson was joined by quite a few members of his “own family,” with many golden retrievers taking part in the walk.
