Mullion Farmers’ Market will be making a welcome return next week and it is hoped it will be even more successful than in the previous two years.

The market is run by a team of local volunteers and any profits from the hire of pitches is returned to the community through donations to local groups and charities. Since the first market in 2011, donations in excess of £1,400 have been made to Million Christmas lights, Mullion in Bloom, Mullion jubilee celebrations, Lizard Christmas lights and Lizard jubilee celebrations.

This year’s donations will be down by £140 because organisers have to pay for the replacement of an advertising banner that disappeared from a local roadside in December.

This year’s market will make its first appearance on February 16. Barry Taylor said: “Our market aim is to give local people and visitors the chance to buy fresh local produce directly from small, local producers, farmers, fishmongers and bakers.

“Most of the producers are based within a few miles of Mullion and sell their own goods so can answer any questions about the produce.”

On sale will be bread, vegetables, meat, fish, cheese, eggs, pasties, pies, cakes, quiches, chutneys, jams, chocolate and curry. Although primarily a food market, there will also be other goods such as plants, cut flowers, locally brewed ales and some local crafts available.

Each market also offers charities and organisations, such as the RNLI, National Trust, British Legion, Cancer Research and the Lions Club, to take a stall to boost their own funds.

The market is held from 9.30am until 1pm on the third Saturday of each month, except January, at Mullion Comprehensive School. To find out more, of to offer your services as a volunteer, visit www.mullionfarmersmarket.co.uk, visit its facebook pag
