Helston's heritage railway volunteers were back at work this week, preparing outbuildings and sprucing up the track ahead of the big Easter reopening.

Although some handy helpers had chosen to work through the festive period, the Helston Railway Preservation Society was back up to full strength on Thursday with as many as four working parties on site.

One team worked on building the Truthall Pagoda, which will be a metal clad structure once completed, while other groups repaired or erected fences and fixed the society's dumper truck.

Barbara Barnes, from the society, said the weather had hindered progress a little describing conditions as “very wet.”

But, she said: “We have a programme of work that we want to get done this year and we have to be ready to open at Easter.”
