Mullion school Christmas show is a sell out

Sell out performances greeted Mullion School’s Christmas production this year as over 100 students performed to an enchanted audience.

Here Comes Christmas Again, 2012 was a showcase of sketches and ensembles of dance, drama and music that was performed over three nights.

Some comedy came in the form of the song “!’samtsirhC” (sic), composed and performed by Joe Welch of year nine, and the silent movie Grumpy Old Men, filmed by Tee-J Randall and accompanied by a live performance from four “grumpy old men” from year nine.

Dance performances included Rockin’ Robin, a 50s style dance choreographed by Tee-J Randall and performed by dancers from years seven, eight and nine, and a ballet inspired dance from some year nines.

There were many vocal performances included in the evening. Classical music was represented in a “stunning” performance of Concerto pour Deux Voix by Abbey Mitten, Beth Hawkins, Laura Williams and Rebekah Sharp.

This was followed up by various choirs, conducted by Georgina Davis, performing Let it Snow and Michael Jackson’s I’ll be There. Modern music was brought to life by the school’s band, The Ducks, who played Brown Sugar by Rolling Stones and Peaches en Regalia by Frank Zappa. The brass ensemble also played a medley of Christmas songs.

The second half of the evening saw various drama pieces, all inspired by the work of Charles Causley, which will be performed again at the Hall for Cornwall in January.

Ben Merritt, head of performing arts, directed Timothy Winters, Little Miss Elliot, Dan Dory, My Young Man’s a Cornishman and My Friend Maloney.

The show ended with a punk inspired dance of The Twelve Days of Christmas, backed up by music from Reliant K.

The audience could also enjoy some more traditional Christmas carols, mince pies and mulled wine.

One parent said: “The variety of talent is quite amazing, and it is wonderful to see so many pupils working together and producing a stunning show.”
