The Helston Railway group has extended its railway line to make it the most southerly section of track in England.

The 120 yard section of track was finally completed last week, with volunteers braving the wind and rain to make sure it would be ready for a series of "Santa Specials’"journeys that will be running from December 14 until December 17.

Barbara Barnes, membership secretary of the railway, said: “This new bit of track runs along the top of Truthall Summit and is the highest section of the Helston Railway, at 98 metres above sea level.

"The views from here are superb and passengers will be able to travel on this section for the first time, on our Santa Specials.”

The four Santa Special days run from 10am to 4pm each day and include a chance to visit Father Christmas, have a brake van ride along the mile of track and enjoy a hot drink and festive cake in the buffet, with face painting also available.

For last minute shopping Thomas Toys, Trevarno Skincare products and Helston Railway souvenirs will be available.

There is no charge for car parking and children under five ride for free.

Hey you steam train guys, please take over the Falmouth Truro line and run the same current service but with steam engines. It would be a fantastic tourist attraction and serve both towns. What do you think?

Nice idea molesworth but apart from anything else it would be too costly and the ticket prices would reflect that, then those people that use the route regularly as opposed to people having a pleasure trip would likely complain about the cost.

Good to hear there is no charge for car parking.

Imagine how well the Mullion holiday park would do if they had a train station in there.

I'll put the Helston railway on my list after the stadium for Cornwall and Helston community centre, if I ever win millions on the lotto, trouble is I have never won more than twenty pounds.
