Many schools got involved in the fundraising, with pupils wearing fancy dress instead of uniform in return for a donation.

At Breage Primary School both children and staff enjoyed the multi-coloured theme – none more so than headteacher Andrew Orme.

The Doctor Who fan used the day as an excuse to wear his multi-coloured scarf, as sported by Tom Baker in the 1970s.

In total the school raised £51.98. Mr Orme said: “Thank you to everybody that donated. That’s quite a fair amount of money for us. In this time where everybody is feeling a bit strapped for cash, people’s generosity never ceases to amaze me.”

Trannack Primary School had two events to raise money. Pupils paid 50p to have a motif painted on their cheek during the day and then after school a group of year six pupils led by Alice and her friends held a DVD and book sale.

Headteacher Cherry Hawker described the £62 raised as “rather pleasing”, adding: “It was really nice to get into the spirit of things. We do something different every year to raise money.”

In the past the school has held karaoke sessions and talent shows.

Children and staff from Landewednack School and the adjoining Little Lizards Children’s Centre at The Lizard supported the appeal by wearing outrageous hats in exchange for a donation.

Pupils were encouraged to wear the most unusual hat they could find, leading to headgear that ranged from helicopters to fruit, and cowboys to witches hats.

Meanwhile at Garras School the youngsters were encouraged to take in their favourite teddy bear for the day and wear non-school uniform in return for a donation.

The result was that £60 was raised for Children in Need.
