Farmer killed crossing road with cows near St Day

A farmer has died when crossing the road with his cows following a crash near St Day.

The crash on an unclassified road between United Downs and Frog Pool in the hamlet of Cusgarne happened at about 11.30am on Saturday.

A police spokesman said that a Honda motor vehicle which was in collision with a male pedestrian who was on the road crossing his cattle from land to land.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been identified and named as Kelvin Bailey aged 67 years. Kelvin was a local farmer and has farmed the area for years alongside his elder brother.

Kelvin has been described as a larger than life character who will be greatly missed by his wife, relations’ and many, many friends.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident and ask that they contact them on 101 quoting police reference 0286 271012.
